Of all the 72 Consummate and Secret Arts of the Shaolin Temple, that is, its Secret Fighting Exercises or ‘Kungs’, the Vermilion Palm Technique is probably the deadliest. It is also one of the most difficult to acquire, demanding a lot from the student in terms of willpower, persistence, and determination. The Vermillion Palm falls under the Yin/Rou Internal Energy Training category and is a palm specific exercise.

Technical analysis

The Vermillion Palm technique has long been associated with dim-mak or “delayed touch of death.” it was said that, if the technique was applied by a Master, although no external evidence of any blow would initially be evident, bright red marks would appear on the victim’s body after 3 days. Subsequently, death would ensue after approximately 10-15 days caused by damage to internal organs.

The Vermillion Palm is number 1 on the Shaolin Temple secret fighting arts list!

Also known as the Red Cinnabar Palm and the Plum Blossom Palm, The Vermillion Palm Technique requires 15 years of practice to acquire, plus dedication to never abuse it. Not to be confused with Black Cinnabar Palm, as treatment with certain medications may help injured individuals – for the effects of The Vermillion Palm, there is no cure.

method

Stage 1 Concentration and Gathering of Qi

Take a shallow open bowl or other similar container partially filled with fine sand and place it on a table in front of you. Rub your hands constantly with the sand until exhausted and repeat this practice daily. At first, you may feel dizzy after practice; persevere and this will disappear soon. When you can rub your hands together 1 foot away from the container and get the sand moving and swirling, Stage 1 is complete.

Stage 2

Replace the fine sand in the container with coarse sand and repeat the exercise until similar results are obtained. Then use raw iron sand and gravel in the same way. Finally, use small bits of scrap metal until they respond similarly to the rubbing of your palm. At this point the Art has been reached.

general

Learning the Vermillion Palm makes one stronger and healthier overall, improving the function of the major internal organs. However, the Qi directed to the palms from the exercise causes damage to the internal organs of those it strikes, and this invariably proves fatal. Therefore, great restraint should be applied in the use of the technique.
