Battle Punks is a true 3D game developed by Gravity Bear, a name not very familiar to many.

Plot

This is another mindless battle game that you will find on Facebook. There is no plot in this game. All you have to do is move from one map to another and defeat all the opponents you meet.

how to play

You start the game as Battle Punks and when you first enter the game, you will notice the character creation screen in front of you. This is where you will choose to be a male or female battle punk. You will then have the option to choose how you would like it to look during gameplay. Character customization is not permanent and can be changed later in the game.

After the character selection screen, the player will be presented with control of the game. The tutorial will guide players through the interface step by step. After getting familiar with the control, you will be able to know how the fighting is in this game. (You don’t need to learn much as the game will automatically take control of your punk during combat)

The fight is fully automated by the game’s AI and all the player has to do is sit back and watch! Oh yeah, don’t forget to cheer on your punk! The battle system is really very interesting, although the players cannot control their character. The system seems to be quite smart in choosing the most powerful weapon you have. From there it will depend on what items you bring into battle (however, sometimes your punk can pick the wrong weapon during the start). You can have special power for shields, weapons and potions. During the battle, the player will notice that his punks will sometimes lose their weapons and take out the next best weapon to fight with. Unless your punk is totally out of weapons to choose from, the game will go into a fistfight (literally).

The game has some problem; the fight depends on luck and choosing the right opponent. Sometimes your punk will just waste health potions without thinking. I mean without thinking! You may notice that sometimes even with 1 hit from your punk, he or she will bring out a fresh bottle of health potion to drink, wasting a valuable potion! On top of that, after advancing to the next map, the battle becomes much more difficult. You will notice that your opponent will keep knocking down all your weapons even when he is using a normal weapon to fight you. This gets really annoying because even a low level player can beat your high level character with better weapons and stats.

Now after the battle is over, if you win, your reward will be displayed on the screen along with additional loot. If you lose, you’ll still get your reward, just a little less. Strange how this game is a bit merciful to the players.

The matches of the game are arranged in a set of 3, which means that in each battle you can choose any of the 3 available opponents for you to fight. If you think any of the 3 opponents is too strong, you can reset the opponents, but if you reset too many times, it will cost you five gold per time. The battle is also limited to 3 at a time since you only have 10 energy and each battle costs 3 energy to fight (it can be upgraded so no need to worry). Other than that, the energy recharge is very slow in this game, roughly 5 minutes per cycle.

Now we look at the other aspect of the game. Players can choose to purchase items such as weapons, clothing, and accessories. This is the dress up part of the game. There’s little need to explore here aside from the weapons store. Always go for the most powerful weapon! That makes a difference.

If you have enough extra money in your hand, then you can decide to redesign your character’s appearance. A bit strange for designers how you can and I really mean you can dress down to your underwear in this game. For now, I don’t really see anything useful in the cloths that are provided, except that it makes your character stand out. No additional protection points are provided on any of the garments you wear. So I guess you can always decide to jump naked at anyone. (You will really stand out from the crowd if you are this crazy)

Other bonus features include battle replays. If you want to admire and gloat over your previous battle, all you have to do is head over to the profile and replay any battle you played. This is an interesting feature, but not a new one, as it was also implemented in Little Warrior.

Graphic

One thing I noticed when I first started this game is that my Java plugin launched. This is not a flash game, rather it uses Java technologies which may explain why the game is in full 3D. If you look at this game, the entire game uses Cell-Shading technology and it looks like a normal PC game. This game is really impressive and no Flash game can come close to its beauty. I wish all Facebook games were this beautiful. The game actually runs at a very high frame rate with no lag unless your system is slow. In addition, Java also allows you to implement some technologies such as lighting and shadows.

sound

Very high quality sound, especially if you put the headphones on you can really hear the difference. This game comes with a soft lute tune and the battle sound effect is top notch. As you progress through the game, the music changes. This is a very cool move the developers took as it really wouldn’t be boring for players to play the same tune over and over again.

Conclution

Although there is nothing really new in this game, it still has its frustrations. This game is really fun at first but it gets really challenging as you level up and keep dying over and over again.

Finally, although it is very beautiful and uses Java technology, this game performs very well compared to the other Flash game on Facebook. Load time is more of an issue during the first run, but after you get past it, it’s worth looking into.

I give this a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
