Married couples to save more on car insurance

The website, Confused.com, found that married couples saved an average of £34 from the top ten insurance providers.

The website’s auto insurance chief Will Thomas said motorists could save a considerable amount of cash on their auto insurance premiums simply by getting married. He said: “Weddings are expensive affairs, however it is a consolation that a newly married status could save drivers up to 16 per cent on their car insurance premiums.”

Married couples would not be required to change insurance providers. All they would have to do is declare their spouse on their current insurance policy. So if you asked the question on Valentine’s Day, get ready to save more on your car insurance.

However, if motorists aren’t quite ready to take the next step toward compromise, Mr. Thomas assures them that cheap deals still exist.

He said: “While there are some great deals out there, shopping around for the best deal is essential as some insurance providers are less competitive in this arena than others.”

Motorists struggling to find cheap car insurance may find that they may need to trade in their vehicle for a more affordable and friendly one if they want to see their premiums drop.

According to a vehicle information company, HPI, “now is a good time to buy a used car” as prices are lower and more affordable.

Martin Keighley, used car valuations expert at HPI, said: “Overall in the trade we are seeing some vehicle types showing signs of increased confidence, with City, Supermini and Small Car types leading the way. We are also seeing some luxury petrol models and 4x4s showing signs of revival. To the man in the street, this means that the value of these cars is increasing, although they currently still represent an extremely attractive purchase.”

The firm said buyers should act quickly because current deals were unlikely to last much longer.

“Job losses continue to make headlines and many of us are worried if we will have jobs this time next year. But on the other hand, some people are now paying less for their mortgage, fuel, food and clothing. This means I haven’t had as much disposable income for a while and for those of you in this position, now is the time to grab a used car bargain, just move fast as good quality stock is in short supply,” added Keighley.
