Malawi: one of the beautiful countries in Africa

Malawi is a landlocked country and used to be known as Nyasaland. The country is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique to the east, south, and west. It has a population of around 14 million people and covers an area of ​​118.00km2. It is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. The name of the country comes from the word Maravi, an old name of a local community known as Nyanja that used to inhabit the area.

Malawi is not very developed and the most attributable reason for this is that it is very densely populated. However, the economy is mainly based on agriculture. There is also a lot of fishing in Lake Malawi and the country exports a lot to other countries. One of the favorite fish species exported from the country is known as Chambo. Before, the country was known as Nyasaland while it was under the rule of the British. The country received Dr. David Livingstone as one of the first European visitors back in 1859, after the departure of the Portuguese.

Malawi has beautiful tourist attractions like the Golomoti escarpment. Visitors can also go boating on Lake Malawi. Large African rivers like the Zambezi and Shire can also be accessed while in this country. South of Lake Malawi lie the Shire Highlands which rise 3,000 feet above sea level. The peaks of the Zomba and Mlanje mountains can also be seen and rise 7,000 feet or 2,134 m and 10,000 feet or 3,048 above sea level. The capital of the country is Lilongwe, but the largest city is called Blantyre, a commercial center with a population of around 500,000 people.
