Although it seems obvious, one of the most forgotten needs of quality leadership is that a leader be IMPORTANT! I have little doubt that most people who rise to leadership positions do so with a well-intentioned attitude of wanting to do good. Unfortunately, however, as is evident from the significant shortage of quality leadership experienced by so many once-great organizations, few of these people possess the best combination of a positive can-do attitude, adequately developed skills, the necessary degree of self-confidence, good judgment, experience and wisdom (which are essential in the decision-making process), etc. Furthermore, even some with these attributes fail to become significant leaders, because they cannot or do not want to perceive and set the correct priorities, thus seeking the best sustainable system, etc.

1. Trusted; rational; reasonable; realistic; branch offices: How can anyone become a trusted leader, until/unless they are both actually rational and perceived to be such? Wanting change is great, but change, for change’s sake, rarely helps! Be sure to be reasonable and realistic, as you continue to set high goals and aim for the best! Be careful though, almost every action comes with a set of potential ramifications, so you need to identify, understand, and prepare accordingly.

two. Empathy: You will never be a relevant leader unless you take the time and effort to pay attention to what those you serve perceive, want, and need. Know their concerns and address them. Great leaders are empaths!

3. Listen; to learn: Listen much more than you talk and pay attention to what you hear! Relevant leadership only happens when you learn from what you hear, experience, and witness!

Four. Endurance; Energy; Excellence: Often the difference between success and far less stellar results is one’s stamina, persistence, and perseverance. You must be able to maintain a high energy level, if you expect others to follow you! Never settle for simplistic shortcuts, but constantly strive for excellence!

5. Visualize; worth; values: Are you able to understand what was, is and should/could be? Only leaders who can envision a better way can hope to be relevant! One must seek value and convince voters of the value of belonging and participation. Never compromise your values, because without them, any plan becomes meaningless!

6. Attitude; attention: Relevant leaders maintain a positive can-do attitude, but without simply wearing rose-tinted glasses! Pay attention to details, goals, priorities, and ethics!

7. Requirements: Relevance requires addressing needs, concerns, and priorities, and having a well-developed plan and strategy!

8. Prompt; stubborn: Will you keep up your energy and efforts, despite the obstacles, obstructions, and challenges that come your way? A relevant leader must be tenacious and proceed in a well-developed (and considered) and timely manner!

Why try to lead, unless you do, in a APPLICABLE road? Are you prepared to do it?
