Does baseball need a salary cap?

There are definitely bigger topics to ponder these days, but with spring training only a few months away, it’s time to take another look at the process by which baseball allows some teams to use the system to become more powerful. while other teams without TV contracts and large market positions struggle.

I know the argument that these teams have earned their positions and need to funnel the money they make back to the team and a superior product for their fans who expect playoffs, if not championships, every year.

These teams that inflate salaries by signing players with these contracts do pay a penalty in the form of a luxury tax, but for them it is one more cost of doing business and it is not an impediment in any way, just a small economic inconvenience.

For me, the fan (Mets, though this is not a bitter grape), part of the joy of watching the games goes away when some teams can become all-star teams, picking the best players simply because they can and most others can. . ‘t.

Let’s level the playing field so that the job of minor league general manager and head of development becomes relevant again, unlike it is today. The size of the owners checkbook.
