Yeast Infection Symptoms You Should Know About!

When we hear of yeast, the first thing we think of is the baking powder used to leave baked goods like breads and cakes. Yeasts are actually fungi with different types of species including not only those used in baked goods, but also those that cause significant disease (such as Candida albicans). This fungus is present all around us and in some parts of our body. It lives harmlessly, but when it is understood, it will get infected and you will feel the symptoms of a yeast infection.

Candidiasis (yeast infection) occurs in mild or superficial forms (such as thrush and vaginitis experienced by immunocompetent individuals), and in severe forms, such as systemic and life-threatening diseases experienced by immunocompromised individuals. Common mild symptoms of a yeast infection are swelling or redness and discomfort such as itching, a burning sensation, and irritation in the affected area. In the female genitalia affected by this infection, symptoms include a whitish-grey discharge, severe itching, pain, and burning. On the other hand, infected male genitalia show the same signs like severe itching and burning sensation as well as development of red patchy sores. A whitish discharge from the infected male genitalia may also occur, but is not common. Chronic thrush can affect children from three to nine years old, and the condition is characterized by white patches around the mouth.

The symptoms of a yeast infection may be mild enough to simply ignore. But not treating this infection will result in it becoming a more serious condition that will lead to severe symptoms and may even worsen into a life-threatening disease.
