With one of the wettest summers on record in the UK this year and the country in the midst of a fierce recession, it’s no wonder so many people feel ripped off on their summer holidays. With our spirits low and thoughts of cold, frosty mornings and long, dark nights ahead, more and more of us find that these thoughts turn to the prospect of finding a belated vacation.

Winter destinations are often found at the end of long-haul flights; however, this does not always have to be the case. Morocco, Egypt and Cape Verde are all within a 6 hour flight from the UK and are great places to start looking for your late deal holiday.

1. Morocco: Located on the northwest coast of Africa and enjoying 300 days of sunshine a year, Morocco is a colorful and aromatic mix of beautiful beaches, traditional architecture and fascinating Kasbahs. Choose between a relaxing beach break in Agadir or visit the charming city of Marrakech with vibrant markets, friendly locals and bargains to haggle for. Just a three-hour flight from the UK makes Morocco a great choice for a late-deal holiday this winter.

Egypt: The wonderful Red Sea region of Egypt is just a 5 hour flight from the UK and offers endless sandy beaches, superb diving and snorkelling opportunities and a fantastic selection of first class hotels. Although obviously famous for its iconic pyramids, fascinating temples, world-renowned river and medieval bazaars, Egypt is also a country rich in beauty and warm in hospitality.

3. Cape Verde: Enjoy the exotic beaches of the Caribbean without the long flight. Cape Verde is located off the coast of West Africa (below the Canaries) and consists of ten small volcanic islands and five small islets; perfectly combining deserted beaches and baroness landscapes with fertile green fields and spectacular mountains. Whether you choose lush and lively Santiago or the tranquil islet of Boa Vista, Cape Verde late-sale holidays are the ideal winter destination.

4. Kenya: Kenya has some of the best beaches in Africa and the most magnificent scenery, from the white-rimmed shores of the Indian Ocean to the tips of beautiful Mount Kenya, the scenery is stunning and teeming with fascinating alpine wildlife and plants. giants. 9. Mexico: This Central American country jumps from north to south and is full of color and life. Free time and families are priorities in Mexican life, so you know you’ll receive an incredibly warm welcome from the locals here. While still recovering from the after effects of the swine flu, prices in Mexico are reasonable in an attempt to regain tourism they may have lost, so now is a good time to look for late-deal vacations in Mexico.

10. Florida: Clearwater Beach is part of a barrier island off the west coast of Florida and is in the Guinness World Records books for having the most consecutive sunny days; 361 days of endless sunshine make this record-breaking city the ideal winter sun destination. Perfectly located for Universal Studios and Disney World, its wide, sandy beaches stretch into the shallows of the Gulf of Mexico, making them perfect for swimming.
