It is very simple to explain what the negative calorie diet means. According to this theory, to digest certain foods, your body burns more calories than the food itself contains. For example, an orange can contain around 50 calories. Let’s say that for its digestion, your body needs 75 calories. As a result, your body will spend 25 more calories of its own energy burning existing fat, allowing you to lose weight.

There are many fruits and vegetables on the negative calorie food list. The Negative Calorie Diet claims that you can create a calorie deficit in your body simply by eating asparagus, broccoli, onion, garlic, lettuce, spinach, cucumber, apples, oranges, watermelon, and more.

I have a feeling this theory sounds a bit controversial. Let’s say a person eats only negative calorie foods. So for every orange this person eats, he must burn 25 calories. Day after day his body will burn an amount of energy from his previous accumulations. This person would soon cease to exist!

Critics of the negative calorie diet claim that there are no foods that have ‘negative’ calories and no one can eat this way to lose weight. On the other hand, I must admit that this theory promotes the consumption of foods rich in vitamins and minerals. And this is a great benefit for our body.

Until scientific evidence is provided for or against, let’s say that the foods listed above provide energy with a relatively small tendency to cause overweight.
