Bedfordshire is nestled in the hills just thirty miles from London. It is the gateway to both East Anglia and the Midlands. The county is dotted with characterful little towns that blend historic elegance with modern wonder. The towns of Milton Keynes and Woburn are perfect examples of towns separated by time.

Woburn Safari Park opened in 1970 and began to invite visitors through the gates. This park is an award-winning attraction that also makes a valuable contribution to conservation efforts. This is a fun place where families can spend time getting to know the animals in a beautiful setting.

Woburn Abby is probably the most famous landmark in Bedfordshire. This Abby is just as stunning on the inside as she is on the outside. Abby has been home to the Duke and Duchess of Bedford for almost 400 years. It sits on 3,000 magnificent acres of land and is itself a building of unique history, standing through over four hundred years of English trials and tribulations.

Shuttleworth Collection in Biggleswade contains a brilliant collection of motorcycles, cars, planes and much more. This aeronautics-based museum is located in Old Warden Airfield and is one of the most prestigious in the world for its collection of well-preserved and historically significant aircraft.

Stondon Motor Museum in Lower Stondon houses a collection of nearly five hundred cars in five different showrooms. You can take a trip down memory lane as you see vehicles from the turn of the century to some modern classics. Most of these vehicles are part of the largest collection in the country.

Whipsnade Zoo is one of the most popular attractions in England. It is home to more than two thousand animals, from giant rhinos to majestic lions and mischievous meerkats. They even have a large number of penguins. This is a beautiful zoo that places a lot of emphasis on the natural habitat and comfort of its animals. They are strong in their conservation efforts.

If you have a thirst for history, there are many castles throughout the region along with many Roman ruins. These historic structures are in varying levels of repair and deterioration, from fully restored structures to earthworks, meaning not much remains of the original structure. Some of the earthworks structures are bounded by newer structures that have their own history and value.

If you are visiting the county of Bedfordshire, one thing is for sure. You won’t run out of things to do or places to visit. This is a county steeped in history, thriving with today’s markets.
