As a network marketer, you are always trying to produce your company’s product or service. Some network marketers do a great job of marketing, while others are just horrible at it. I believe that copywriting can be learned over a period of time and practice. But who wants to go to school to learn writing and spend years cultivating their craft? Why not capitalize on the talents of others and shorten your path to success?

In school they taught you not to copy from someone else’s paper. That was called cheating. In the corporate world it is a widely used practice and it is called swiping.

What is a slip file?

A slip file is nothing more than a collection of tried and tested advertising and sales letters. Collecting slip files is a common practice used by copywriters and creative directors as a ready reference for project ideas. These files and ideas are often stolen from other competitors and vendors.

As a corporate network marketer, you should always pay attention to advertising; especially those ads that make you stop and take action.

When an ad pulls you into a purchase or even makes you want to make a purchase, you need to pause for a moment and ask yourself, what was it about the ad that caught your attention? How did you attract my senses?

Look at the format, the words used, and the style in which it was marketed. Pay attention to the little details. Once you understand what it was that made you act, slip that idea out and save it in a folder or notebook that you’ve labeled “slip files.” As you continue to do this, your swipe file will become a valuable collection of great ideas and marketing copy. This will become one of your most valuable resources when you need to market and advertise.

Marginal note:

I use Evernote to store my slip file ideas. Evernote is great because I have it on both my computer and my smartphone. With my computer, I can quickly cut out ads and save them. On my smartphone, I can take photos of the ad, leave voice notes, and even videotape the idea, all in my sliding Evernote file folder. This is very useful when you are on the go and see big ads.

A successful corporate network marketer must pay attention to what Corporate America is doing. There are valuable resources sitting right under your nose every day. Are you capitalizing on those resources?

Think about it for a moment; Fortune 500 companies spend billions of dollars to advertise and get us to buy their products and services. They pay millions to smart marketing executives and copywriters. The big advertisers and copywriters are worth every penny because they generate billions in sales for corporations.

You don’t have to be the world’s greatest copywriter, nor do you have to pay for one. Exploit the intellectual capital of Corporate America by paying attention to marketing messages that tap into their buying emotions. Pay attention to ads that wake you up.

Okay, maybe titillate is the wrong word, but focus on ads that grab your attention. If it makes you stop and consider a purchase, it means it did its job.

Implement those slider file ideas into your own marketing and you’ll soon see your campaigns attract larger audiences to your business.
