Going on vacation to Mauritius is a great way to kick back and relax, and a hobby you might want to indulge in during your stay is a sailing trip. Mauritius is a beautiful tropical paradise and you’ll find plenty of stunning places to explore both along the main island’s coastline and on the many islets that dot the surrounding sea.

The Indian Ocean is a magnificent place to sail and you should be sure to pack your swimming and snorkel gear on any day out on the water. You’re sure to want to take the plunge when you moor up for a break, and if you have a mask and snorkel handy, you can discover some of the fascinating and beautiful creatures and coral that live beneath the waves.

Many of the luxury hotels in Mauritius will be able to arrange a catamaran trip for you and if you are on the west coast you can also enjoy an afternoon on the water spotting dolphins.

Imagine the wonderful memories you will have if you are lucky enough to see some of the majestic creatures jumping out of the water or playing around the bow of your boat.

One of the best things about taking a fully crewed and skippered chartered sailing trip is that you will be able to sit back, relax and fully enjoy your luxury holiday in Mauritius.

You can spend a day discovering some of the beautiful palm-fringed beaches and coves along the Mauritius coast, or you can head out to explore some of the dozens of islets that dot the sea around the main island.

Many of these are uninhabited and some are protected nature reserves. If you like to look for exotic and exciting wildlife, a day in one of these places could be perfect.

Ile Albatross is a great spot for bird watching, as the island is home to hundreds of seabirds, including migratory albatrosses.

Round Island is another destination you might want to visit on a sailing trip, as it is home to several species of reptiles that are endemic to the island, such as the Round Island skink and the Round Island day gecko.

You may also want to take a yacht to one of the inhabited islets such as Ile aux Benitiers which has a coconut plantation and is also famous for its beautiful sandy beaches.

Spend an afternoon sampling some of the local produce while sunbathing on the golden sands. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in taking the helm, you’ll find that many hotels offer boats to use for free, allowing you to cruise around some of the nearby lagoons at your leisure. But if you want a more exciting ride, you can always take a speedboat ride.

Although local regulations prevent you from navigating on your own in such a vessel, you may be able to find a boat with a skipper who can show you the sights from the water. So when planning your Mauritius vacation, be sure to add a boat trip to your itinerary and enjoy a relaxing afternoon discovering some of the country’s beautiful beaches, coves and islets.
