Destiny’s House of Wolves Expansion Preview

Bungie lifted the curtain on the full list of content to release House of Wolves, the second major expansion for the MMO shooter Destiny. This Destiny Expansion reveal, complete with trailer, shows off new story missions, new multiplayer maps, a new co-op mode, a new competitive event, a new quest hub, a new strike mission, and new top-tier gear.

This expansion tasks players with hunting down the House of Wolves, a faction of the Fallen that rebelled against the Queen of Awoken. Players meet the Queen’s forces at Vestian Outpost, a new social space on the Reef. The Wolves bit the hand that showed them mercy after the Fallen’s failed invasion, and the Queen promises to reward those who carry out her vengeance.

The most unique new multiplayer content for House of Wolves is the Trials of Osiris competitive event. The reveal of the HOW expansion reveals the Elimination multiplayer mode, in which two teams of three engage in a series of best-of-nine non-respawn deathmatches. Players can revive their fallen teammates, but the rounds will be quick. The twist is that the rewards system revolves around elements that track your wins and losses. If your team accumulates three losses, the item does not buy anything and you have to start over. However, there are team rewards for a winning streak of two, three, five, six, seven, and eight.

There are also four new multiplayer maps, one of which is a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive. However, Trials of Osiris will take place on only one multiplayer map per week. HOW seems to be a promising addition to the diversity of challenges that Destiny brings to her guardians. With the addition of Prison of Elders, I feel like Destiny has given the reins to the players and I’m sure we’re up to the task.

New cooperative content includes a survival mode called Prison of Elders and a strike mission, The Shadow Thief. Both send players from the team ladder towards the new top tier team, designed with an Egyptian pantheon motif. This expansion will also increase the leveling caps on older gear, breathing new life into outdated gear. What’s most missing from this expansion, however, is any word on a new raid.

The reveal of the Destiny House of Wolves expansion shows the content that will be released on May 19. Marks the last full content patch included with the purchase of the original Season Pass. Get it on Xbox one and PS4.
