I had a real epiphany about my content marketing strategy the other day. Have you ever had one of those “hit me over the head now” moments when you realize you’ve made a huge marketing mistake? That’s how it went. I was in a webinar with Don Crowther, one of my social marketing mentors, and he casually mentioned that his mortgage is fully covered by AdSense revenue from a single content site he publishes on.

Here’s the thing. He told me about hubpages TWO YEARS AGO. Why do I do an annoying “all caps” on that? Because two years ago I tried it, and it worked. For example, one of the first “hubs” I created was for a network marketing job, and I got two new distributors the first month I posted it! Not bad.

So… not so much. In the last two years I have posted a total of 17 hubs, whereas Don only produced one every day and now makes a few thousand smackers a month.

And during that time it could have easily produced a plethora of hubs, but just, well (fill in the excuse here). I’ve always wanted to make content marketing a major part of my online marketing strategy, but I never really do. And yet, during that time, I produced a lot of content! Powerpoint presentations, articles, videos, webinars, etc. And each of these could have easily become great content on the content networks.

So, I’m back in action and I recommend you get in action too. Content marketing is great on so many levels. The content is fun to do, you’re not limited in what topics you can cover, and it forces you to write; And let’s face it, content is king online, and if you can’t produce content on your topic, you’re in trouble. Content sites are a great place to learn. Follow other content marketers to see what they’re up to and get in on the action! Not only can you get the following benefits:

– Links to your blog or website

– Direct traffic

– Improve your marketing skills.

– Get ad revenue generated by some of these sites

– Learn some great things from the communities at large…

But it’s also a fun and free method of marketing for whatever sells, or even doesn’t sell! You can create content pages about whatever your little heart desires and get direct exposure, brand, and build your reputation in whatever field you enjoy.
