Caddo Lake is a confiscated natural lake that has vegetation that covers more than 95% of the surface water on the Texas side. The water is shallow with abundant cypress trees throughout the lake and the fishing piers are also a good place to fish.
Fish are most active during the fall, winter, and spring months due to the cooler weather. Fish are active much longer during daylight hours and are typically found in shallow water in the early morning and late afternoon. For active fish, spinning baits and crank baits are the choice of most anglers. A variety of watermelon green plastic worms seem to do well during the warmer months caught in grass. Early morning is a fisherman’s dream on this lake … upper water baits are just about anything that floats. Typically Poppers, Prop Baits, Flukes, or just about any Stick Bait.
Caddo Lake Cabins for Rent: There are cabins and marinas available, but you should do your research. There is a wide range of prices with weekly rates adjusted downward. Many fishing guides live on the lake from their home and more offer cabins for rent on their property. This is an ideal situation because, in addition to the isolation and staying away from the crowds, you have the experience of the guide and the fishing tips on the lake. East Texas guides offer these accommodations more than in other parts of the state.
