ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-inch Netbook: An Unbiased Review

The ‘E’ in the new ASUS Eee PC 1000HE stands for ‘extended’, reflecting the improved battery life in this new model (it now has a 6-cell battery and improved power management technology. The ASUS case Eee PC 1000HE has a glossy surface with a hint of gloss.

The screen on the new model is a matte screen, which is great. Personally, I prefer a matte screen (over a glossy screen) as they don’t reflect light as badly. Although it’s only about 1″ larger than the smaller model (the 8.9-inch), the extra screen real estate made a big difference for me as I often use it for work (word processing, etc.). .).

There are 4 quick launch buttons below the screen, two of which you can customize. Some of the biggest improvements can be seen in the new keyboard. The new ASUS Eee PC 1000HE has a ‘chicklet’ keyboard, where each button is separate from the other. It looks better, but the typing experience seems similar to the previous model. However, the new position of the shift key is a big improvement. It also has a large ‘multi-touch’ touchpad (similar to Apple’s) which is possibly one of the best touchpads on any netbook on the market.

Like many netbooks, the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE comes with Windows XP. It also comes with a polishing cloth and a cute little bag to store the netbook in. I have installed Windows 7 on this model and it is doing quite well so far (fast without any noticeable lag). So far, I’m getting about eight and a half hours of battery life on a single charge, which is amazing by any standards.
