Just as there are many types of manufacturers, there are many types of agencies. Some only license the art and others are sold as prints or in products in addition to the work of their artists. Some represent artists whose work fits only one market niche such as accommodation, the west, and the country. Others specialize in representing artists whose work is suitable for home decor or patterns for fabrics, clothing, stationery, and scrapbooks. And of course there are some agents who license all kinds of art for all kinds of products. Some represent multiple artists and some represent several hundred artists. Some will enroll artists who are new to licensing, while others will only accept artists who are already known and have achieved a measurable amount of success. These agencies tend to represent artists who have a unique and recognizable art style and who are or can become a brand.

So how do you find the right agency for you and where do you find it? Search the following list of more than 60 licensing agencies located in the United States. Decide if you want a large one to represent your art or a small one. Look at the type of art they represent and see if their artistic themes and style fit together. And finally, if they don’t have the submission rules on their website, call to find out the best way to submit samples of your work.
