Apple’s Maps app is a source of fun in the tech market. Users are not only enthusiastic about the presentation of this application, but also use it. However, there are mixed reviews about this app. Let’s find out more about the Maps app, including its drawbacks, and compare it to Google maps.

About the Maps app

The new application presented by Apple is an improved version, since this application is capable of guiding a user with voice instructions along with an automated route change. Now exploring new territory is easier with this app on your iPhone 5, as you’ll never be out of directions. It’s not essential to have a car to get there, even if you use it to find your way around the local commuter or hire a taxi, you won’t be stranded alone.

how it helps

If you are stuck in a traffic jam or want to take an alternative route, as soon as you turn around from the given route of your address, it will automatically redirect or readjust accordingly. This way you will get an alternative route address and you can take the relative route suggested by the maps application.

Before the maps app, it was Google, but it seemed to lack voice-guided navigation and the ability to change the route. Also, the user seemed to be more interested in finding the route by swiping through the menu and looking for directions. In fact, this was distracting to the driver or even a traveler looking for guided directions instead of just a map showing it. For example, if you are traveling on a busy road, it will be literally impossible to keep an eye on the directions displayed, nor will it be possible to remember each step.

The best way was to solve this dilemma. Apple finally introduces its own Maps app that is well-equipped to provide much-needed assistance to the user. Soon this software was also available for iPhone 4S users, including the latest iPad models.

After all that has been said above, the maps app is not entirely positive, it has its own drawbacks and also disappointments for the users.

Drawbacks of the Maps app

Apple’s Maps app seemed much more than perfect with the complaints piling up about the app. It seems that there are user reviews online who started talking about its faulty performance. At first glance, the map details appear to be a disappointment to the user. Apple has yet to incorporate more landmarks with relevant details into its maps. Other times, a user gets distracted or confused trying to find a way through a poorly marked location on the map. Another issue that arose after using this app is that commuters are often unable to get the relevant directions for public transportation.

Google vs. Apple

Now let’s find out how Google performed better than the Apple Map app.

• The Google app is more responsive and immediately gives the address. For example, if you’re approaching your destination and there’s still a turn you need to take, comparatively Google will tell you right away. On the other hand, Siri takes a bit longer to inform the user about the same. Siri’s response time is a bit slow comparatively.

• With Google, a user will get turn-by-turn directions including lanes for a given location. You will be guided precisely to a specific motel or restaurant you are looking for. As far as Apple is concerned, you’ll only be vaguely provided with the direction that leads to the given destination rather than what you’re looking for specifically. This way, with Siri, you’ll only be able to get close enough to a certain location, not exactly to it.

• Other details, such as making a precise turn, are confusing with the Apple Maps application. If you’re itching to make a turn to a specific location, Apple will just give you vague driving directions with nothing specific. Google maps, on the other hand, will tell you to turn left or take the service road. It’s as if Google is equipped with a direction compass that points precisely to give you the right direction. With Siri, it’s more like trying to pinpoint the place exactly.

• Google can also help you find a way out of a traffic jam by helping you with guided satellite imagery. As for Apple, a user will only be able to get the overview of a route instead of live navigation.

In conclusion of all that has been said above, it can be said that although Apple’s Maps application is not perfect, but with time, this too will improve. User feedback is something Apple should look for when making any relevant changes. Hopefully Apple’s Maps app will make quick improvements to giving specific directions to a user.
