Jacksonville, located in Duval County, is the largest city in Florida, surpassing even Miami in terms of population explosion (about 1.3 million). This coastal city has continued to boom, especially after its consolidation with Duval County and its proximity to the Gulf and also the San Juan River. Thousands of people call Jacksonville their home each year, adding to its many residents who live primarily within the city limits. As such, Jacksonville apartment complexes continue to receive a steady stream of applicants. Normally, it would be easy to rent a good apartment in this city, but recently, most apartments have implemented strict credit and rental history checks that have resulted in many people being turned away. However, there are some apartments within Jacksonville that do not check credit or, when they do, are willing to give problem applicants a second chance. This means that even with a breached lease, an applicant can get approved after passing some standard requirements. But these apartments are not easy to locate, and tenants with previous problems can waste a lot of time and money going from apartment to apartment and being turned away.

Let’s take a look at some places in Jacksonville where one can rent an apartment even with bad credit, a broken lease, and/or a criminal record:

  • north jackson
  • Northwest
  • Southeast Jacksonville
  • Mandarin
  • West Jacksonville

This list is not exhaustive. As we mentioned earlier, there are many other areas where these types of apartments can exist. Locating and narrowing down to these apartments is not easy, but it is possible if one has the proper knowledge of how and where to search.

Some people are of the persuasion that these types of apartments, often referred to as “second chance apartments,” are located in run-down sections of the city. This may or may not be true. There are great, well-maintained, and stylish apartments in safe neighborhoods that will be willing to approve a tenant with previous rental issues.

One way to watch is to use the Internet. This is by far the most convenient way to search because there is no need to waste time or fuel driving across town. One challenge with second chance apartments in Jacksonville is that they generally do not advertise, which means that sometimes one cannot easily discover these complexes. The apartments themselves also want to remain anonymous because they don’t want to attract the “wrong kind” of tenants, which can result in falling rental prices. Some apartments will usually approve a felony, but only if you are old enough, usually 7 or older.
