With over seven thousand islands to discover, it would take a lifetime to explore every part of this region. However, while conventional hotel vacations offer their clients only a fairly limited glimpse, Caribbean yacht charters provide a fantastic means of witnessing a much greater part of this beautiful region.

There are many great places to charter yachts in the Caribbean, but two of the most popular are the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and the Grenadines. Whether you are interested in chartering a Caribbean bareboat catamaran or chartering a skippered yacht, you will find the full range of services at these locations.

In both places you will find companies that offer services for experienced boaters as well as for beginners. As such, you will find a choice of luxury bareboat, skippered and crewed yacht charters. You will also have to choose if you want to navigate the Caribbean on a motor boat or on a sailboat

Yacht charter in the BVI (British Virgin Islands)

Located to the east of Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands form the northernmost part of the Lesser Antilles, the 400-mile-long arc of mostly volcanic islands that separates the Caribbean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks to constant trade winds and year-round sunshine, the British Virgin Islands are one of the most popular yacht charter destinations in the Caribbean.

This really is a place to get away from it all, and as the islands remain relatively uninhabited, you often have the feeling that you have the islands to yourself.

That’s not to say you’ll have a hard time finding places to eat and drink, as there are plenty of great bars and restaurants to choose from. However, this is a generally quiet and laid-back region and you won’t find the kind of nightclubs and casinos that have sprung up at so many other beach resorts.

The pleasures in this part of the world are much more natural and you will find that the British Virgin Islands are a great destination for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.

There are wonderful coves to explore, as well as many beautiful white sand beaches. The most vibrant scenes, however, are found underwater, where you’ll find countless colorful tropical fish swimming among the coral reefs.

You can also choose to explore one of the many shipwreck areas. The wreck of the RMS Rhone is located here and is said to be one of the best in the Western Hemisphere.

Yacht charter in Grenadines

Located north of Trinidad and forming the southernmost part of the Lesser Antilles, the Grenadines are another great Caribbean yacht charter destination.

The Grenadines are made up of around thirty islands and cays and offer good winds and fast sailing with direct visibility.

Like the British Virgin Islands, the Grenadines are also a great destination for scuba diving and snorkeling, and one of the most popular dive sites is the Jonas wreck, which is located near Mustique.

You can also try your hand at drift diving, a special form of diving in which you are carried away by strong underwater currents. The feeling of drift diving has been compared to that of flying and the fact that you travel so fast means you can see a much greater variety of seascapes than normal.

However, you should be aware that drift diving is more dangerous than normal diving and as such requires special training. Fortunately, there are good dive schools located in St Vincent, Bequia, Mustique, and Tobago Cays.
